Building Confidence with Soulfire in Central Fife

Jacquie Mellon the volunteer coordinator from Give Something Back based in Central Fife was awarded additional funds from Fairer Scotland Fund to provide a much needed confidence building course for volunteers across Fife being supported by Give Something Back.

Jacquie contacted Lee Walls from Soulfire and booked 2 courses, one for Central Fife and one for East Fife. The sessions in Central Fife have recently been completed and the four week program covered topics around goal setting, body image, stress and relaxation.

9 women attended the course and thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. All remarked on the difference in confidence levels not only to themselves but to the other members of the group in such a short period of time. They also enjoyed the contact with other women in similar situations to themselves.

The group sessions concluded with members participating in a “glass walk”. Understandably this was met with fear and anxiety but the women were on a high once they had walked the walk!

As a follow up to the course Jacquie is looking to start a regular meeting group for volunteers supported with Give Something Back as a way for them to discover what’s happening in their local area while building new relationships and friendships to enable them to access the local services and activities without professional support.

Building Confidence with Soulfire in West Fife

One windy Wednesday morning in May, a group of otherwise sane women took the opportunity to walk on broken glass. This was the final of four confidence building sessions run by Lee Walls from Soulfire. Each of the women plucked up the courage to set foot amongst the broken bottles, some of them more than once. After the session was over the women agreed that they felt that if they could do this, then they could tackle anything. They all feel that the extra confidence will stay with them long after the day itself.
