PVG Scheme Update

CRBS have recently reported that a large number of applications for PVG scheme membership are being rejected by Disclosure Scotland due to lack of information about tasks/roles. In particular, the description of an applicant’s role in section E5 needs to clearly demonstrate that they are doing regulated work. Please note that titles such as Driver, Trustee, Co-ordinator, Child Protection Officer do not specifically detail why the position applied for is regulated work, examples of what can be detailed in E5 are as follows:

o Driver – sole charge of children/protected adults
o Charity Trustee – please note that a Charity Trustee can only apply to join one workforce; organisations submitting PVG forms for Charity Trustees must determine one main purpose – children or protected adults
o Co-ordinator – managing individuals in regulated work
o Child Protection Officer – providing advice to children

In addition to this, we also know of at least one application from an organisation to register with CRBS being rejected because they could not demonstrate that their volunteers were doing regulated work. If your organisation faces a similar situation, please contact your local Volunteer Centre branch for advice/support.
