Think Globally, Act Locally! Hye Suk Choe, known as Soo, is a Community Service Volunteer from South Korea, “I have learned many lessons in Scotland by getting involved in volunteering and various cultural activities, for example I have been volunteering at Cupar Age Concern, and I also took part, as a Korean traditional drum player, in two events promoting Fife’s diverse mix of nationalities. I took many opportunities to meet people through language classes in Cupar and St Andrews, through Tae Kwando and Scottish Country Dancing. I have a plan to set up a branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society in Korea to keep the connection with Scotland!” “Scotland has given me more than I expected. I have learned how to make a difference, how to make where I live a better place, how to help each other, how to love neighbours. At the end of my year in Scotland when I go back to South Korea I will continue volunteering especially for socially-isolated people. Through volunteering abroad, now I can think globally but act locally. Now I have many very good friends beyond the border of countries, cultures, languages in Cupar. I have never enjoyed my life as much as this.” Soo. |
