What is volunteering?

Volunteering is 'the commitment of time and energy by the individual for the benefit of the community. Volunteers undertake this freely and by choice without personal financial gain.

Why volunteer?

  • meet new people and make new friends from different age groups and cultures


  • enjoy a particular activity that you would like to share with others


  • share your skills with others gain different skills enhance self-confidence to achieve more try out new experiences that you may not have thought about enhance your CV and job prospects

What's involved?

Don't worry if you don't have much time or experience:

  • On average a commitment of only 2-3 hours per week is asked for


  • Training is often provided


  • Police checks and vetting if you're going to work with vulnerable people (but having a record won't necessarily prevent you from volunteering)


  • Some patience! It might take one or two attempts to find what's right for you
