Board of Directors


Roger Coates
(Chair)

Roger joined the board in 2000. He is married with one daughter and two grandchildren. His business background is in management, sales and marketing and financial services.

Roger has worked as a volunteer with CSV (Community Service Volunteers), the Round Table and the Children’s Panel.

Roger says "The Board of Directors of Volunteer Centre Fife are committed to assisting the staff to provide a first class volunteering service which is available to all sections of the community in Fife"

George Proudfoot

George joined the board in 2003 and is now the Vice Chair and Chair of the Staffing Sub Committee. Previously he has been employed by Fife College ( Adam Smith College) for 22 years having held various posts such as lecturer / programme tutor in Maths and Computer Studies. He has also been responsible for adult training programmes and community business development.

He is currently self-employed as Blue Sphere Consulting offering IT tutoring, ICT / Website development, project evaluation, funding development and business development (primarily for voluntary sector and small businesses).

He has many years experience of management committee/Board membership of voluntary sector organisations in Fife, including being an office bearer - currently chairman of 2 organisations. He is a member of various network organisations in education, training and voluntary sector.

Joe O'Brien

Joe joined the board in 2003. His background is in catering and he was in business for ten years before starting to lose his sight. In 1997 he joined Volunteering Fife East helping with publicity, including a film for VDS. He has given cookery lessons to the visually impaired and became a telephone befriender for Blether Together. He also works with BASE (Blind Activities Support Events) organising activities for the visually impaired.

Joe is the Chairman of the Federation for the Blind for Central Scotland.

Laura McIntosh

Laura joined the board in 2004. She is currently having a career break during which time she is doing sessional work for the Healthy Living and Sensory Awareness Project. Laura managed the Good Neighbours Home Support Project for WRVS for a number of years.

Laura originally got involved with community work while volunteering at Kinghorn Community Centre. She set up a youth club there and went on to become a paid member of staff.

April Adam

April joined the board in January 2006. She is a Service Manager for Fife Intensive Rehabilitation and Substance Misuse Team (FIRST).

She is also on the boards of Fife Day Care Services and the Express Group Fife.

Alison Chapman

Alison has been on the board since 2001. She has spent many years working as an Administrator/record keeper and is interested in archive related work. In 1992 Alison became a volunteer and board member with Hillingdon AIDS response trust, in West London and joined Volunteering Fife West when she moved to Scotland with her family in 1999. Alison volunteers occasionally at the Fife Mining Museum in Kinglassie and is, with one of her dogs, a Pets as Therapy volunteer. She is also the board's link with the VCF office in Dunfermline.

John Anderson

John joined the board in 2003 and is also the chair of the Finance Sub Committee. His background is in business as a bank manager and a company secretary.

John had about five years experience in the voluntary sector as a Volunteer Co-ordinator for a hospice charity shop before becoming involved with Volunteer Centre Fife.

William Craik (Treasurer)

Bill first joined the board of Volunteering Fife East in 1996 and subsequently remained as Treasurer when the organisations merged to form Volunteer Centre Fife.

Bill also acts as Treasurer for three other charities and a local Credit Union.

David Grisenthwaite

David is now retired. He spent 35 years in Human Resources. David volunteers on the boards of - Day Centre Ltd., Fife Society for the Blind, Kirkcaldy Housing Trust, Volunteer Centre Fife and is Chairman of the Board of CARF.
